I’ve been thinking about this page for quite a while, but I really only had two or three terms to post with links. Once I sat down to write this, though, I found a few others (Updated<\/strong> 10.19.08).<\/p>\n

This list provides examples of literary terms, primarily in videos and images, though there are a few written texts here for now. Page updates will happen. Hopefully this helps define, work with, teach, and learn these terms.<\/p>\n

  6. antagonist – Something from Jake And Amir Dot Com,<\/a> but it’s tough to find one appropriate for classroom use<\/em> (could be used for “foil” as well)<\/li>\n
  7. archetype – Miss Teen USA: Miss South Carolina<\/a> [D\/L<\/a>], Barats and Bereta: Mother’s Day<\/a> [D\/L<\/a>]<\/li>\n
  8. climax – Does-Nothing-o-Matic<\/a> (an anti example!)<\/li>\n
  9. conflict – Igor<\/em> trailer<\/a>, Why you should never drive and text<\/a><\/li>\n
  10. connotation – Fairly Reliable Bob’s<\/a> (maybe)<\/li>\n
  11. denotation – Fool’s Gold<\/em> as a “tedious” movie<\/a> (maybe)<\/li>\n
  12. dynamic character – Living My Life Faster<\/a>, 9 months of gestation<\/a> (I’m waiting for one of these where the person doesn’t change at all to add to “static character”)<\/li>\n
  13. flashback – none<\/a> (I’m thinking of Lost<\/em> as food for a video clip of this)<\/li>\n
  14. foreshadowing – none<\/a><\/li>\n
  15. hyperbole – Jake And Amir: Elevator<\/a> [edited for the classroom<\/em>: D\/L<\/a>]<\/li>\n
  16. irony – Human Giant: Camping Weekend<\/a> [D\/L<\/a>], Foresight<\/a><\/li>\n
  17. metaphor – Mac vs. PC – Home Movie<\/a>, Ellen Page Hitler PSA<\/a><\/li>\n

  20. parody – Obama as celebrity<\/a>: Paris Hilton parody<\/a> (you may want to edit her one curse word<\/em>), Talk to your parents about voting McCain<\/a> (I can’t find one of the original commercials on talking to your kids about drugs, can you?)<\/li>\n
  21. personification – Comcast: Stop Worrying About Time<\/a> [D\/L<\/a>], Epuron: His Potential Is Ours<\/a> [D\/L<\/a>], CMS FOREX currency battle<\/a><\/li>\n
  22. protagonist – Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay<\/em> trailer<\/a>, WALL\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2E<\/em> trailer<\/a><\/li>\n
  23. pun – Comcast: Stupid Fast<\/a> (only because I couldn’t find the El Moolah one) [D\/L<\/a>]<\/li>\n
  24. satire – truth.com: Shards O Glass Freeze Pops<\/a> [D\/L<\/a>]<\/li>\n
  25. simile – Think Before You Post<\/a> (posting online is like<\/em> putting something on a bulletin board at school — pretty weak)<\/li>\n
  26. soliloquy – none<\/a> (Stewie Griffin gives a ton of these on Family Guy<\/em>, so I hope to find a clip)<\/li>\n
  27. static character – none<\/a> (I haven’t seen it enough, but would Talladega Nights<\/em> work? Isn’t Ricky Bobby static?)<\/li>\n

  31. understatement – “…only rolled once…”<\/a>, Ben Stein: Clear Eyes<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
